I am currently pursuing a doctorate in Microbiology at the University of California Berkeley (Go Bears!). My main research interest is in engineering the type III secretion system in Salmonella for heterologous protein production. I completed Bachelors of Science in Biology at Imperial College London. Outside of work, I enjoy reading fantasy as well as landscape photography!
The type III secretion system represents an alternative way for the production of heterologously expressed protein. Such a strategy would allow for production of proteins that are either toxic to the cell or unstably expressed in the cell. I am interested in discovering various cellular factors that are involved in this process and how we can better hijack the cell’s native system for greater secretion. I would like to find out if there is a practical ceiling to how much protein can be stably secreted.
